Founding of the Slovak Chips Centre

 

Slovak chips centre is a non profit organisation, founded in 2024 by Ministry of education, research, development and youth of the Slovak Republic, Ministry of economics of the Slovak Republic, Slovak university of technology in Bratislava, Slovak academy of sciences and Association of the Electrotechnical Industry is Slovakia as a reflection to the obligations and opportunities, resulting from the European chips act.

Focus Topics

Short-term goals:

  • Participation in the EU project “Building Competence Centers of European Significance” (potential to secure 1 project per member state and EU support for the period 2025-2030).
  • Concentration of the knowledge base to operate as a national knowledge center and authority.
  • Establishment of a Chips SK office in the EU to support delegations in Chips JU and ESB, members of the Permanent Representation of the Slovak Republic to the EU, and representatives of Slovakia in the semiconductor field (with significant importance in promoting Slovakia’s interests in participating in projects and investments).
  • Support for the participation of Slovak partners in large pilot line projects in the EU as associated partnerswith the possibility of drawing on ERDF resources to approach the EU’s technological standard.
  • Support for the domestic sector in acquiring projects and contracts within European consortia.

Medium-Term Goals:

  • Support for the creation of new SMEs and the reorientation of existing SMEs towards semiconductors.
  • Support for the integration of research organizations and SMEs into international consortia, supporting the acquisition of contracts in the field of power semiconductors.
  • Support for the creation of pilot lines in Slovakia focused on power semiconductor devices, involvement in the semiconductor value chain in the electromobility and energy sectors.
  • Support for the creation of semiconductor production lines, especially in the back-end area.
  • Support for networking within the EU of pilot lines for production possibilities within the lines.
  • Monitoring and providing expert background for EDA tools to strengthen the design of chips and systems, primarily in the field of power semiconductors in Slovakia.
  • Connecting potential entities operating in the chip area with competence centers within the EU CC network.
  • Ensuring educational activities in the field of universities and secondary schools.

Long-Term Goals:

  • Overseeing the long-term sustainability of the involvement of Slovak partners within production chains.
  • Maintaining the Slovak platform for semiconductors to cover entities active in the field of semiconductors in Slovakia.
  • Attracting new investors and industrial entities in the field of power semiconductor products.
